Cornucopia X

Cornucopia X

November 7 - November 29

Cornucopia X, curated by Alicia Bailey, 11.7-11.29
Art Gym Gallery is excited to announce Cornucopia X, a book arts exhibition curated by Alicia Bailey and juried by Marnie Powers-Torrey. The exhibition will be open from November 7 – November 29. Join us for the opening reception on Thursday, November 7, from 5-8 PM.
For the past decade, Abecedarian Artists’ Books (previously Abecedarian Gallery) has facilitated an annual juried exhibition, Artists’ Book Cornucopia. The exhibition series is noteworthy in that it has provided an opportunity for students, emerging and established book artists to exhibit side-be-side.
To avoid presenting exhibitions from only a single point of view Abecedarian Artists’ Books Director Alicia Bailey has hired a different juror for each of the Cornucopias. For this tenth, and final, Cornucopia, Marnie Powers-Torrey, Managing Director Book Arts Program, Marriot Library, University of Utah, Salt Lake City, Utah, selected 36 works by artists living throughout the United States, Canada, Greece, and Poland.
Of significance to the series is that no constraints other than logistical ones of size and weight have been imposed. This has consistently resulted in exhibitions demonstrating a broad range of concepts and techniques in the contemporary book arts realm.
“Without exception, each of these books blurs lines and defies explicit categorization. Find here a cornucopia of finepress, photography, sculpture, illustration, writing, and mark-making as well as a celebration of form, texture, color, material and typography.”                                                                              juror, Marnie Powers-Torrey
